How Do Finger Print Access Control Systems Work and What Are The Benefits?

Finger print access control systems provide homeowners and business owners alike with the ultimate keyless entry system that can’t be foiled by making duplicate keys. Since each individual has unique fingerprints no one other than an authorized person can gain access. This eliminates the hassle of lost or forgotten keys.

Print access control systems work by using sensors that read the print and match it against a digital representation of the print in a database. There are two phases to the fingerprint recognition process. The first phase is one of establishing an association of a particular person to a particular print. This phase is only done when a person is first entered into the system. Once that is established, that particular user is identified by the system by their print. Based on the permissions assigned to that particular print, access is granted or denied. This can be set up to allow access only to certain areas or zones, or the user can be granted “all access” to all zones. Since there is virtually no way to re-create someone’s fingerprint, this method of access control has a minute margin of error and provides heightened security levels.

Although fingerprint recognition systems have been around for a while, they until now have been limited to government buildings or other areas requiring higher levels of security. As the technology has progressed and costs have come down, now many mainstream businesses and homeowners are able to afford this technology which improves security for the home or business. In the case of businesses, the system can act in a duel capacity as a time clock as well as a security system. This eliminates employees clocking in and out for each other as the system obviously requires the person to be present.

What Is Facial Recognition Software?

Facial recognition software used to be fodder for sci-fi and futuristic type movies. No one thought that while watching these shows that the technology demonstrated within would be a reality in the not too distant future. However, its time has come with more mainstream businesses implementing this technology with its heightened security. Face recognition access control systems are the next step up in higher security.

What is face recognition? Face recognition software works by creating a digital representation of a person’s facial image. It does this by closely analyzing the structure of the face using features such as nose, cheekbones, lips, and eyes. Essentially it builds a detailed map of the angles, lines and features of the face and then converts it to a file containing all of the information that was gathered during the verification process where the face was associated with the person being added for access. The face is mapped out in detail during this process so that an incorrect match or false denial is minimized.

Facial identification uses one of two methods to establish identity. The first is geometric where distinguishable characters are compared. The second, which is photometric, uses an analytical way of converting the features of the face to a numeric value. This value is then compared to the templates stored within a database. The identity of a person is first established when they are entered into the system. Pictures are taken from several different angles to establish a clear map of the features of the face. This is then entered into the system. When the person then requests access, the system will compare the value it sees with the values that it knows are allowed to have access.

If you are delving into the use and setup of surveillance equipment for the first time; you are going to want to start small and take it slow if you can. When building a surveillance system there are hundreds of different technologies and pieces of equipment that can quickly become overwhelming; so take it one step at a time.

Pre-configured Surveillance Systems

A lot of surveillance equipment distributors will offer pre-made packages for sale that will have the basic necessities to monitor your home or business. Generally these systems are smaller in size and only go up to about 4 security cameras; as they are meant for small security applications and quick setup time.

This is a good way to go for the less technically adept and time constricted individual as most of these systems are plug and play and require little know how beyond the ability to follow instructions. On the downside however these surveillance systems have little room for expansion and generally they are built in a set way that leaves little room for upgrade and variety of cctv components.

If you decide not to go with a pre-configured surveillance system and rather piece it out yourself for your own needs; then there are a few basic components you will want to make sure you have.
